Background
DID was founded by Dr Andreas Heinecke. When he was working at a broadcasting organization, he was appointed to look after a colleague with visual impairment. He realize then that there was not much support for visually impaired and people look down on the visually impaired. He understood that this problem was caused by people not understanding and not having interaction with the visually impaired.
Andreas launched the first DID exhibition in Hamburg in 1988 hoping to connect the general public and the visually impaired by bringing them together in the dark. In 1996, DID went global as it was invited to hold exhibitions in museums and conferences over the world. Dialogue in the Dark in Hong Kong started in 2009.
